Wet Pour is often found in children’s playgrounds because it is the ideal surface for protecting kids. Once it’s in place, Wet Pour helps to reduce the potential impact of a fall from equipment, minimising the harm to the child and helping to ensure that they get back up and try again. Wet Pour is incredibly popular thanks to its safety qualities, as well as its aesthetic, and the fact that it significantly reduces the potential for head injuries. But what do you need to think about when it comes to Wet Pour maintenance and care?
Wet Pour Maintenance
One of the major advantages of Wet Pour is that it requires much less attention than many other types of playground surface. You only need to set aside a small amount of time, on an annual basis, to ensure that Wet Pour remains effective and in great condition. Maintenance is simply a process of cleaning to remove any contaminants that may have gotten onto the surface of the Wet Pour. You can use a jet wash to do this or something as simple as a stiff broom. Any other maintenance will depend on the area in which the Wet Pour is located. For example, you may need to carry out regular treatments to remove moss. Or, if the Wet Pour is positioned under trees, you might have to brush to remove leaves and mulch, especially during the autumn months. And that’s all you need when it comes to Wet Pour maintenance – it’s so much easier than many other playground surfaces require.
Wet Pour Care and Repair
In terms of Wet Pour care and repair, there are a number of different factors to consider.
Try to avoid damage to Wet Pour wherever possible – There are some common ways that Wet Pour can be damaged – these include vandal attacks with either fire/heat or a sharp object or a poor installation process.
Wet Pour shrinkage – If the installation process has been effectively carried out then shrinkage should not be a particular problem when it comes to Wet Pour. For example, Wet Pour should be installed in the right kind of conditions – the top wearing course should only be installed on a dry day when the temperature is above 4 degrees centigrade. If shrinkage does occur with Wet Pour, then this is not that difficult to remedy.
Poor Wet Pour composition – Wet Pour must be mixed correctly in order to be effective – the ratio of rubber to resin binder needs to be correct. If there is an issue with this then ongoing care can be difficult, for example too much resin will make the Wet Pour dry too hard.
Damage by vandals – Although most people appreciate play areas and take care not to damage them, a small minority will go out of their way to do this. Most often it is by attacking a surface with a knife or a naked flame. Where this happens, a patch repair is often the simplest way to deal with the issue.
