Cherry Orchard Academy, Kent, Wet Pour
Product: Wetpour Safety Surfacing
Budget: £15,000
Brief: A state of the art two-form entry primary academy opening in September 2017. Located at the Ebbsfleet Garden city development in Kent. The architects wanted to transform a flat area of land using colour and surfacing to create an eye catching statement within the new academy.
Surfacing Installed:
Wetpour was the only choice of safety surfacing able to bring the architects design to life. The use of bright colours and an undulating design helped bring interest to the flat area. Mounds were incorporated into the design and were in-keeping with the colour graphics. Consultations were held to agree exact colour choices to reflect the architects vision.
The mounds were created by the groundwork contractor using layers of MOT type 1 stone and a cap of concrete. 20mm wetpour was applied to the mounds in several colours. As there was no fixed play equipment within the area 40mm depth wetpour was laid to the flat areas on a compacted MOT type 1 stone base.
Scope of Works:
As this was a working construction site our installation teams had to meet strict heath and safety rules and full PPE was required. As the school were opening September 6th we have a tight deadline to complete the works. The surfacing was one of the very last items to be installed so we only had a small window to compete the works. The August weather was good and the installation was completed within the deadline.
The Outcome:
An amazing and colorful eye catching play space which compliments the state of the art building.
